MUNICIPAL SERVICES AFFECTED: STORM WEATHER | 11 May 2026: 12:00

Municipal offices

  • The main municipal buildings in Gansbaai, Hermanus, and Kleinmond remain operational on generator power. Cashiers (rates halls) and libraries are open.
  • Unfortunately, many outlying municipal offices and facilities are currently offline, with limited or no internet services available. This includes Building Services, Town Planning, Property Management, and Environmental Management in Hermanus.

Traffic Services

  • Licensing and registration services remain operational in Gansbaai, Hermanus and Kleinmond.
  • The vehicle testing station (roadworthy) and driving licence testing centre in Hermanus is closed today

Major roads

All major roads in the Overstrand area remain open, although there is some debris on the roadways. Other roads may close intermittently and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.

Open:

  • N2 reopened at 11:40
  • The Stanford and Palmiet bridges are still safe
  • R326 (Stanford to Van Brakelstoor)
  • R44 Clarence Drive between Rooi-Els and Gordon’s Bay
  • R320 Hemel-en-Aarde Road stop-and-go (MR269 Hemel-en-Aarde Road on the Caledon side is closed)

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel where possible and remain vigilant as strong winds and rain continue across the municipal area.

Community Halls

  • Buffeljags Community Hall is closed after the roof was blown off.
