Upcoming information sessions for work seekers and subcontractors
If all goes according to plan, construction of the R43 upgrade between Vermont and Sandbaai is expected to commence in January 2027.
The project, led by the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure, will upgrade the R43 between Vermont and Sandbaai to a dual carriageway, including the construction of a new bridge alongside the existing Onrus Bridge, as well as stormwater, culvert and the relocation and provision of new access roads to Amana/Paradise Park, Berghof Estate and Kidbrooke Place.
The construction phase is expected to take ± 24 months to complete.

In preparation for the project, Overstrand Municipality’s Socio-Economic Services team met with the project consultants to discuss community engagement and the recruitment and procurement processes that will support local employment and subcontractor participation.
Residents and interested subcontractors are encouraged to ensure that all required documentation is in order and to register on the Overstrand Municipality’s Job Application Portal (https://www.overstrand.gov.za/vacancies/#vacancies), which forms part of the municipal work-seeker database project aimed at connecting qualifying work seekers with employment opportunities.
To ensure communities are fully informed, a series of information sessions for residents, work seekers and potential subcontractors has been proposed following the local elections. Subject to final confirmation, the sessions are expected to take place from Monday, 16 November to Thursday, 19 November 2026.
Information sessions are planned for communities of Mount Pleasant, Zwelihle, Sandbaai, Onrus, Vermont, Hawston and Fisherhaven. Meeting venues and final starting times will be communicated as soon as the arrangements have been confirmed.
