The Western Cape Department of Agriculture’s Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programme is requesting that all farmers affected by the recent fires in the Overstrand and Overberg Districts complete the survey provided. This will help them assess the damage and plan the necessary support.
Survey questions include:
- Employment and Jobs Lost (To assess the impact on local employment)
- Access Roads (Whether damaged roads are hindering movement or access to properties)
- Humanitarian Relief (If immediate aid such as food, water, shelter, or medical care is needed)
For further assistance or inquiries, please contact Leslie Mario Marthinussen, Disaster Manager: Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at 021 808 5360/5368 or via email at Leslie.Marthinussen@Westerncape.gov.za
Please share this link with your neighbours as well and encourage all affected farmers to complete the survey as soon as possible.
BEEKEEPERS
We are aware of two beekeepers who lost more than 50 beehives. Some were fortunate enough to relocate all their hives in time.
The main concern, however, is hive production, as the fires destroyed the bees’ nectar resources and the sites where the bees are kept have been destroyed.
The Western Cape Beekeeping Association is collecting information from beekeepers who have lost hives due to recent fires across the Western Cape.
Beekeepers are not required to provide the exact location of affected hives; only the relevant municipal area needs to be indicated.
Affected beekeepers can submit information via the following link:
