Vermont-Onrus hit by another outage linked to alleged sabotage

Last night, Eskom direct customers in Vermont/Onrus experienced another power outage after several days without electricity.

Upon investigation, it appears that the outage was caused by alleged sabotage of Eskom infrastructure, where a power pole was reportedly cut near the sharp bend on the road before Hawston.

Law enforcement authorities have been notified of the incident, and investigations are underway. Any form of sabotage to essential infrastructure is regarded in a serious light, as it has a direct impact on communities, businesses and essential services.

Residents are reminded to report any incidents of vandalism or cable theft telephonically to SAPS Hermanus on 028 313 5300, or via the Municipal Citizen App under electricity faults. Alternatively, contact the Overstrand Municipal Contact Centre on 028 313 8111.

The latest update from Eskom at 12:00 indicates that teams are currently sourcing the necessary materials and resources to replace the damaged poles on the Vermont, Onrus, Onrus North, Chanteclair and Hemel-en-Aarde line.

Bosplasie will be attended to as resources become available.
Currently, there is no estimated time of restoration available.
