At least eight structures burned down in the Overstrand area as result
of the first winter storm that is pounding the Western Cape since late
last night. A Northwesterly gale that reached up to 90 km per hour
caused power lines to collapse and fires to start up in Bettys’ Bay and
the Old Oak Farm close to Stanford.  Scenes of the fire damage in Betty’s Bay. The Betty’s Bay fire was reported just before midnight last night by the owners of the Pebbles Restaurant in Sunny Seas. Within minutes it was burning out of control. All Overstrand fire stations were pulled in to combat the fire and assistance was also received from the Overberg Fire Brigade and the SA Police Service. |

Hulle is Lincoln Benjamin (Watersuiweringswerke) en Mhlanganiseli Mtshizana (Parke) van Hermanus en Deon Miggel (Watersuiweringswerke) van Kleinmond. Die sertifikate is deur Burgemeester Theo Beyleveldt en munisipale bestuurder Werner Zybrands oorhandig.
STATION SITE No resolution could be taken about the transfer of ownership of the Station Site, unregistered erf 11006, a portion of erf 774, Hermanus, because the matter is still in court. A report was prepared in terms of section 14 of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act and the municipality’s Asset Management Policy. Delivering a short progress report, Mayor Theo Beyleveldt, said several comments were received regarding the report. An extraordinary portfolio committee will be arranged for 29 July and a council meeting for 31 July if the court case goes as expected. Till then the matter is regarded as sub judice. |

 Dignitaries and celebrities pose for a group photo on the new soccer pitch. Next to Mayor Beyleveldt in the middle stands the British Ambassador in South Africa, Mr Paul Boateng.
The official inauguration of the Gansbaai Communal Sports Centre last Sunday (20 April 2008) achieved exactly what the driving forces behind this ambitious project had in mind. Hundreds of residents from the surrounding black, coloured and white communities converged on the terrain to participate in sport and enjoy healthy interaction.
The day was blessed with good weather after some gloomy forcast early in the weekend. Activities ran like clockwork and with gifts such as soccer balls, mini rugby balls and lots of other stuff the opening event will be a fond memory for a long time.

After serving the Overstrand Municipality and its predecessors for 33 years as meter reader, Frazer Phillip Jacobs is taking his retirement and planning to spend more time with his wife and five children at their home in Hawston.
Oupa, as most people call him, started to work for the municipality in Hermanus on 4 September 1974. At that time, he started working as a meter reader and since then never did any other work except for being a meter reader. As a friendly person by nature, he became very popular on his routes. He would even sometimes assist old people when he saw that they were in need of help. He has worked under the supervision of various managers in the Finance department but not a single one of them ever had a problem with him. |

 Looking forward to opening day of the ABSA Spaces for Sport Gansbaai Communal Sports Centre are Cassida Valentine, Michelle Manuel, Igsaan Europa, Pieter Jantjies and Sarina Natal. The Gansbaai Communal Sports Centre will be launched this Sunday (20 April 2008) as part of Absa Spaces for Sports*.
This centre will give the Overstrand community access to a modern sports facility and the opportunity to engage with each other through sporting activities. |
