Overstrand clean-up: ‘Be the Change’

Overstrand clean-up: ‘Be the Change’

Driven by his belief in “Be the change,” Overstrand Executive Mayor Archie Klaas is leading from the front, showing that everyone has a part to play – and no one is too important to clean up.

On 2 April 2026, the Mayor joined MMC for Community Services and Ward 4 Councillor Ronald Nutt, together with Aron Gcotyelwa and Rennie Hendricks from the Community Services Directorate, for a clean-up operation in Mount Pleasant.

They worked alongside the newly appointed temporary ward cleaning team to remove illegally dumped waste, collect litter and improve the overall appearance of the area.

This follows a similar effort the previous day in Zwelihle, where Mayor Klaas joined Ward 6 Councillor Vuyisani Bandeza and Cllr Kholiswa Ngqandana as well as Dolf Hansen and his Hermanus cleaning team at the Mandela plots. The Mayor also assisted municipal ‘sign writer’ George Hendricks in painting street numbers on curbs, contributing to both cleanliness and navigation in the community.

Mayor Klaas has called on residents, businesses and visitors to take shared responsibility for maintaining a clean environment. He encouraged the public to dispose of waste responsibly, respect public spaces, and make use of designated landfill sites.

He emphasised that keeping the Overstrand clean requires ongoing co-operation from all who live in and visit the area, urging communities to avoid illegal dumping and to actively contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
