Overstrand’s golden generation brought their A-game to the Mayor’s Senior Citizens Domino Competition on Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
With dominoes clicking and slamming onto tables, care centres from Gansbaai, Stanford, Zwelihle, Mount Pleasant and Hawston came together at the Thusong Centre for a morning of friendly rivalry and a whole lot of fun.
Each team brought heart to the tables, but it was Volvertroue Dienssentrum from Stanford that walked away with the top spot. Pearly Shell from Hawston followed in second place, proudly keeping their “Skrik vir Niks” motto alive. And in a surprise twist, the underdogs from Siyazama Service Centre in Zwelihle secured third place, a standout achievement for newcomers to the game.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Archie Klaas, was there with his full Mayoral Committee, showing deep appreciation for the centres and their residents.
The Councillors acknowledged the footsteps and lasting footprints our seniors have left in their communities – a reminder that today’s youth are walking on paths paved by these very pioneers.
The Mayor took everyone on a trip down memory lane, urging the seniors to share the history of their neighbourhoods, offer emotional support to the younger generation, and speak up when something isn’t right. He reminded everyone to reach out to their Ward Councillors for guidance with accessing government grants and other assistance.
