The public review period for the proposed Eskom Nuclear Power Plant, with a capacity of up to 5200 MW, has been extended following requests from stakeholders and members of the public.
The project is proposed at Thyspunt in the Kouga Local Municipality (Eastern Cape) and Bantamsklip in the Overstrand Local Municipality (Western Cape), under application reference DFFE Ref: 14/12/16/3/3/2/2806.
The review period will now remain open until 25 May 2026, extended from the original closing date of 5 May 2026.
This provides additional time for interested and affected parties to review the Draft Scoping Report (DSR) and submit meaningful comments.
Virtual meeting reminder
Stakeholders are reminded of the upcoming Scoping Phase virtual meetings today and tomorrow: the first meeting will take place on 28 April 2026 from 18:00 to 20:00 via Microsoft Teams (Meeting ID: 346 295 222 692 566; Passcode: 4qm62Cx9), followed by a second meeting on 29 April 2026 from 15:00 to 17:00 (Meeting ID: 311 970 863 358 913; Passcode: Sk6rq353).
Stakeholders and members of the public are encouraged to make use of the extended period to engage with the process.
The report continues to be available online, and printed copies remain accessible at designated public venues.
