Back to the Cape Whale Coast Tourism brand

Back to the Cape Whale Coast Tourism brand

A recent Overstrand Tourism research study conducted by Professor Jayne Rogerson of the School of Tourism and Hospitality at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) recommended that Overstrand Tourism return to the Cape Whale Coast Tourism brand.

The research found that the name “Cape Whale Coast” has a stronger emotional and geographical connection with prospective visitors than the Overstrand Tourism name.

Following this recommendation, Overstrand Municipal Council resolved on 26 August 2026 that Overstrand Tourism would transition back to the Cape Whale Coast Tourism brand.

The return to the Cape Whale Coast name makes it easier for the tourism industry and travellers to identify the region and its diverse tourism offering, from Hangklip-Kleinmond and Hermanus to Stanford and Gansbaai.

The website and social media platforms remain the same, providing residents and visitors with information on everything happening across the Cape Whale Coast:
