Cable theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure continue to pose a serious challenge to reliable electricity supply across the Overstrand.

Voëlklip has been particularly affected over the past month, with repeated incidents of cable theft targeting electrical infrastructure in the area.

The latest incident was reported on Monday morning, 28 September 2026.

The Municipality is experiencing theft of both underground and overhead electrical cables, as well as other electrical infrastructure.

Recent incidents have also included the theft of meter kiosks and cable in Gansbaai as well as a section of streetlighting in the Stanford area.

These incidents cause power interruptions, disrupt services and increase frustration among affected residents.

Although repair and restoration work is continually carried out, ongoing theft and vandalism place pressure on municipal resources and result in significant costs for replacement materials, labour, transport, specialised equipment and restoration work.

Every incident takes resources away from other essential services and places critical infrastructure at risk.
