It has come to the Municipality’s attention that an 11 000 Volts fuse on a pole-mounted transformer in Dubai, Zwelihle, was bridged without authorisation. This means that the fuse protection was bypassed.

This is extremely dangerous.

Unauthorised interference can cause serious damage to electrical equipment and may result in fires, electric shock, serious injury or death.

If residents continue to interfere with the electrical network, the Electrical Department may have no choice but to switch off the affected area to ensure the safety of the public and personnel working on the network.

 

The Municipality urges community leaders to inform residents about the serious safety risks associated with tampering with electrical infrastructure. Residents must keep away from damaged or exposed electrical equipment and warn others to do the same.

Residents who may have information about the person or persons responsible for the unauthorised work are urged to come forward and provide this information to the Municipality.

 

We cannot overstate how dangerous this practice is.

Only authorised and suitably qualified personnel may work on the municipal electrical network.
