How Local Government Works

The Western Cape Department of Local Government will be rolling out a series of Civic Education on Public Participation sessions. The purpose of the sessions is to improve understanding of local governance structures and encourage informed participation in municipal affairs.

The sessions will focus on the following topics:
• The role of ward committees in a municipality
• The role of a municipal councillor
• What a responsive citizen is
• How people can participate in municipal processes

Residents are invited to attend the sessions scheduled as follows:
Wards 9 & 10
Date: 15 July 2026
Time: 18:00
Venue: Kleinmond Town Hall

Wards 5, 6 & 12
Date: 16 July 2026
Time: 18:00
Venue: Zwelihle Community Hall

Dates for the remaining wards will be communicated as soon as they become available.
