Residents and businesses are advised to expect increased activity and possible traffic disruptions in Hermanus this weekend due to a planned two-day march taking place on Saturday, 27 June 2026 and Sunday, 28 June 2026.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) will lead the procession from the front. It is expected that the march will commence at the Zwelihle Sports Grounds before proceeding to town via Marine Drive towards the Old Harbour area in the Hermanus CBD. The final route and timing will be confirmed.
Members of the public and businesses in and around the CBD are requested to remain alert and are urged not to provoke or engage negatively with march participants.
Motorists should expect delays at certain points along the route and are encouraged to make use of alternative routes where possible. If possible, rather avoid the area.
A coordinated multi-agency response will remain in place, with Public Order Police (POP) and local SAPS members maintaining law and order throughout the event.
Overstrand Municipality’s Traffic Services and Law Enforcement officers will assist with traffic management and road closures where required.
The Overstrand Municipality thanks residents and road users for their co-operation and understanding and reminds all parties that traffic management measures are intended to ensure the safety of both participants and motorists.
Further updates will be communicated should additional information become available.

The march is scheduled for Saturday, 27 June and Sunday, 28 June 2026. Participants are expected to assemble from approximately 10:00 at the Zwelihle Sports Grounds before proceeding towards the Hermanus Waterfront.
According to the organisers, the march will carry the message “Hire South Africans.”

In terms of the Regulation of Gatherings Act, organisers are required to notify the relevant authorities of their intention to hold a gathering. A permit is not required.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to remain vigilant and take sensible precautions during the weekend. The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure recommends the following:
Members of the public are reminded that taking the law into their own hands or participating in unauthorised vigilante or enforcement activities is unlawful. Any criminal conduct or public safety concerns should be reported immediately to the South African Police Service.
