Update on De Mond Caravan Park

Update on De Mond Caravan Park

The Overstrand Municipality appreciates the concerns raised by residents regarding the De Mond Caravan Park in Voëlklip and would like to provide an update on security, maintenance and the current status of the site.

The Municipality engaged with the current lessees of the property and requested feedback on the issues highlighted. According to the information received, a security presence is maintained at the site on a daily basis to monitor and control access.

In addition, several maintenance-related concerns have been addressed. Fallen trees have been removed and damaged fencing has been repaired, improving both the appearance and security of the property. The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that these measures are maintained and that acceptable standards are upheld.

To provide additional oversight of the area, Municipal Law Enforcement officials have also been instructed to include the caravan park in their routine patrol schedule. This additional presence is intended to deter unlawful activities and provide further reassurance to residents.

The Municipality encourages residents to continue reporting any suspicious, unlawful or undesirable activities. Reports can be made to the Municipal Control Room on 028 313 8111 or via the Citizen App, so that the matter can be attended to promptly.

The Municipality is aware of public interest regarding the future of the De Mond Caravan Park. However, the matter remains subject to ongoing legal proceedings and is therefore sub judice. As a result, the Municipality is unable to comment further on the litigation or any potential outcomes at this stage.

While the current situation is not ideal and may delay longer-term plans for the site, the Municipality is obliged to allow the legal process to run its course. Any decisions regarding the future use, management or development of the property will ultimately depend on the outcome of the ongoing legal proceedings.

Overstrand Municipality remains committed to maintaining open communication with affected stakeholders and to ensuring that the area is managed as responsibly as possible while the matter is being resolved.
