As a Municipality, we want to assure all affected communities that every possible effort is being made from our side to assist Eskom in restoring electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible.

The recent severe weather system caused extensive damage to electricity infrastructure not only within Overstrand, but across the Overberg region and parts of the province. More than 9 000 faults were logged overall.

HANGKLIP AREA:
Betty’s Bay:
Eskom has restored electricity to Betty’s Bay and all customers should have power unless there are individual customer faults.
Pringle Bay and Rooiels:
Pringle Bay has been partially restored; the same area that was previously without electricity remains affected.
Rooi-Els is still without electricity.
Eskom is on site and making progress with the repairs. They are hopeful to restore these towns today subject to no other large faults (and also excluding single customer faults)

HEMEL-EN-AARDE VALLEY:
Line relocation to be done by Eskom. Design (and land approvals) underway. No ETR.

STANFORD-GANSBAAI FARMS:
Overstrand’s Electrical Department assisted Eskom in delivering eight poles to the Stanford Substation yesterday, and the other seven were collected this morning from Bredasdorp.

The Municipality is also assisting with a JCB to support Eskom in restoring supply to Baardskeerdersbos and the L3 Papiesvlei line. Eskom technicians are hopeful that sufficient progress will be made to restore Baardskeerdersbos today.

The teams will then focus on any other faults in the Stanford area.

Buffeljagsbaai: Cable theft has once again put a spanner in the works. Power was restored, but it was later found that cable theft has left the library, community hall, and crèche (one building/supply) without power. Our teams will try to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
