5 Overstrand Youth begin Health & Safety Learnership

The Overstrand Municipality is pleased to play a role in empowering local youth by hosting five learners from the Overstrand area as they complete their Health and Safety Officer learnership.

This initiative forms part of the Western Cape Government’s Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), implemented through the Department of Infrastructure. The Municipality has been requested to host the learners as they complete the workplace-based experiential component of their training.

The learners have successfully completed their theoretical and institutional practical training and will now gain valuable hands-on experience within a real working environment. Their placement will run from 9 March 2026 to 9 October 2026, during which they will work under the supervision of qualified Health and Safety representatives.

The programme comes at no financial cost to the Municipality, as all learner stipends are funded directly by the Department of Infrastructure.

The five learners from the Overstrand area are:

  • Sinisipho Xhorile (Gansbaai)
  • Lwando Jugo (Stanford)
  • Alisha Nyangane (Zwelihle)
  • Robyn Spandiel (Hawston)
  • Elzane Everson (Hawston)

The learners will be placed within the Human Resources Department, specifically in the Health and Safety Section.

Hosting these learners supports the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to youth development, skills transfer and contributing to national and provincial job creation initiatives.

Overstrand Municipality welcomes the five interns and wishes them success as they gain valuable workplace experience during their placement.
