Road Assessments in Progress

Road Assessments in Progress

SMEC South Africa is currently undertaking visual road condition assessments within the Overberg District as part of the DoRA‑funded Rural Road Asset Management System (RRAMS) programme.

These assessments involve trained technical personnel walking or driving along selected municipal roads to record visible defects such as potholes, cracking, edge deterioration, surface failures, drainage concerns, and gravel‑road wear.

All inspections follow standard engineering procedures aligned to national RRAMS guidelines.

The purpose of this work is to provide municipalities with accurate, uptodate condition data to support:

  • maintenance prioritisation,
  • medium‑term planning and budgeting, and
  • improved service delivery to communities.

Residents may see SMEC staff operating recording equipment or taking photographs during this process. These activities are purely technical in nature and form part of the municipality’s road asset management responsibilities.

They would appreciate the cooperation of the public in the Overstrand area while these assessments are underway. The team will be covering all neighbourhoods in Overstrand, but is currently busy in Sandbaai.

Should you require any additional information about the project and the work involved, you may contact the Function Manager at Julia.Kearns@smec.com. Alternatively, you may contact the Overberg District Municipality offices in Bredasdorp on 028 425 1157 and speak to Mr H. Uys.
