Overstrand Fire and Rescue is still attending to two active fires at Pearly Beach and Stanford.
After the Code Red was declared, many neighbouring municipalities came to the aid of Overstrand.
Resources on scene include Overstrand Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management; Law Enforcement, Security Services and Traffic Services; Provincial Traffic, Overstrand Environmental Management; GoFPA; various landowners; Working on Fire ground teams; Kishugu Aviation aerial resources; CapeNature, augmented by FTE teams; the Provincial Disaster Management Centre; Enviro Wildfire Consultancy; NCC and VWS specialised ground teams; Overberg District Municipality; Swartland Municipality; Drakenstein Municipality; Stellenbosch Municipality; Cape Winelands District Municipality; and the City of Cape Town.
The support from the communities has been overwhelming. Donations have been pouring in across all fire stations, assisting in keeping crews hydrated and fed. The Overstrand Municipality Disaster Management logistics team will remain active until the fires are contained. Stanford Fire: Day 2
Approximately 3 174 ha have burned since yesterday.
The fire remains out of control and is actively burning, with teams on the ground.
The fire has passed Panthera Africa and is burning in an easterly direction, fanned by high winds.
A flare-up has occurred at the Tesselaarsdal fire along the mountain at Mountain Falls, which started on 20 December 2025. The fire is burning within the perimeter.
Pearly Beach Fire: Day 5
From an estimated 1 600 ha yesterday, approximately 15 292 ha have burned since the fire was reported on 4 January 2026. The fire remains out of control.
Division D (Baardskeerdersbos side) is burning with high intensity across farmland and mountainous terrain and has spread in the direction of Elim. Please follow GoFPA or the Overberg District Municipality for updates relating to this division. The fire continues to burn with high intensity along the Pearly Beach gravel road.
Division O (Pearly Beach): This line remains confined to a block. The fire continues to burn within the block from Eluxoweni to the caravan park.
Division A (from Pearly Beach Main Road extending to CapeNature property): The fire burned with high intensity towards Walker Bay Nature Reserve (Old Buffelsjag fire) and burned itself out against the old fire line.
Road status:
* The R43 between Stanford and Gansbaai remains open.
* The R43 Uilkraalsmond to Pearly Beach is open.
Stop-and-go traffic will be enforced in the following areas. These roads will be intermittently closed and reopened:
* Pearly Beach Main Road
* Pearly Beach Gravel Road
* R43 between Pearly Beach and Buffeljags
Electricity supply:
Power supply to Pearly Beach and some Gansbaai farms has been restored.
