As the current financial year draws to a close, Overstrand Municipality’s capital infrastructure programme remains well on track.

As part of this programme, the Municipality is undertaking the electrification of low-cost housing units in the Marikana and Mandela Square areas of Zwelihle.

We expect to complete approximately 400 electricity connections in Marikana and approximately 80 in Mandela Square. The Marikana project is funded from INEP grant funding while the Mandela Square project is funded by our own municipal funds.

The construction work is being implemented by Overstrand Municipality, who has appointed a contractor to assist with the rollout.

The Municipality therefore rejects claims that the electricity connections are being funded or provided by any political party. The project is funded through approved municipal budget allocations for this purpose.
