SANRAL ANNOUNCES ROAD CLOSURE OF N2 AT R43 KLEINMOND INTERCHANGE

The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) is currently upgrading the N2 between Houw Hoek Pass and Caledon.

They confirmed that a 3km section of the R43 from the Kleinmond interchange on the N2 (Exit 90 to Kleinmond and Hermanus) will be closed for the next six months.

The scope of work for the R43 road safety improvement, involves a full upgrade and reconstruction of layerworks, as well as widening the road to 3,7m wide lanes, with 2,4m wide shoulders in both directions.

“It was initially envisaged that the work would be done under half-width construction, with a ten-month construction period, but in trying to reduce the inconvenience associated with road works and the stop-go traffic control, we opted for a full closure, which could reduce the construction time by up to four months, weather permitting,” said Krishna Naidoo, Sanral Project Manager.

Traffic will be accommodated via the Botrivier interchange on the N2 (Exit 92) which is 2km away from the closure.

Overstrand Deputy Mayor, Cllr Lindile Ntsabo, thanked the Western Cape Government and the road agency for giving this section a much needed facelift to improve the condition the road. He is confident that the upgrade would be completed by the end of September 2024.

The road agency appeals to road users to exercise caution when approaching the construction area and to adhere to all speed and access restrictions, while being on the lookout for road construction workers.
