Overstrand Municipality Executive Mayor, Archie Klaas, joined local sport enthusiasts on Friday morning, 18 July 2025, to officially open the new container facilities at the Overhills Soccer Field in Kleinmond.
The ribbon-cutting marked the completion of a R850 000 project to improve the infrastructure available to local sports teams.
The new facilities include one container repurposed as an office and clubhouse, two containers serving as dressing rooms, and two more converted into ablution facilities.
A fence has been installed around the site, and an alarm system fitted to help protect the facilities and try to prevent vandalism.
More work is planned for the area, including putting up floodlights for security purposes. If more funds become available, a concrete slab will also be poured to level the ground between the containers.
The municipality is also in the process of sourcing tables and chairs for the office/clubhouse, which will double as a meeting space for local clubs. Benches will be added to the changing rooms to provide players with seating as they prepare for matches.
Mayor Klaas said the project shows Overstrand Municipality’s ongoing commitment to provide safe and functional sports facilities for the benefit of the local communities.
