It’s fantastic to see some familiar faces returning to provide lifeguard services on Overstrand’s beaches, including our Blue Flag beaches, lagoons, and the public swimming pool in Hawston.
Our local lifeguards (or ‘homegrown boytjies,’ as they are affectionately known) on duty this season include Rodrigo Natus, Warren Fisher, Que Martin, Angelo Gillion, Jordan Gibson, William Roberts, Shaun Dee McCree, Menzi Ndovela, and Jaydon Jacobs.
They will be on duty every day from 09:00 – 18:00 over the holiday season.
The sea temperature is a pleasant 17°C today, and the beaches are already seeing plenty of visitors eager to enjoy the sunny weather.
Safety Tips for your time in the water:
* Swim between the red and yellow flags, as these mark the safe, supervised swimming areas. Avoid swimming outside of these flags, where there could be dangerous currents
* Always make sure lifeguards can see you when you’re in the water
* If you’re in trouble, raise your arm to signal the lifeguards and stay calm
* Only swim in areas where lifeguards are on duty and where signs indicate it is safe to do so
* Dispose of your rubbish properly and respectfully
