The Department of Employment and Labour teamed up with Overstrand Municipality Socio-Economic Services (SES) Department to host a successful Jobs and Careers Fair on 19 and 20 February 2026 at Mount Pleasant Sportsground. The event drew large crowds of job seekers eager to connect with potential employers.

Leading up to the fair, a series of well-attended sessions across Overstrand helped create job opportunities and provided a platform for job seekers to engage with employers.

The fair offered valuable services such as processing UIF applications, claims assessments, and assistance with Occupational Injuries and Diseases claims.

Overstrand Executive Mayor Ald Archie Klaas and Deputy Mayor Elnora Gillion visited the event and was impressed by the variety of job offers, including formal positions, learnerships, internships and contracts.

Mayor Klaas said Overstrand’s future is in the hands of our young people, and it’s vital they explore the range of job opportunities out there.

“Events like this encourage them to stay curious, read up on career trends and stay open to new possibilities. It’s all about giving them the tools to build a successful future,” he said.

According to the Chief Director: Provincial Operations, Mawele Ntamo, the Jobs and Careers Fairs attracted more than 1 482 workseekers. “As the Department we provided registration services for workseekers in our Employment Services of South Africa system’s database for opportunities where some were matched and even assisted in completing Z83 form.”

In addition, the department registered 116 visits for unemployment insurance fund.

Of the total visits 48 were enquiries and 50 were new claims. They processed 18 payments to the tune of R67 956.
