Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we honour the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe.

We thank the firefighters of Overstrand Municipality, along with all firefighters across the globe, for their service and bravery. They step into dangerous situations, facing changing winds, intense heat and unpredictable conditions, so that others can be protected.

Overstrand Executive Mayor, Ald Archie Klaas, said that firefighters are an essential part of the municipality’s Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services, and their contribution does not go unnoticed.

Today is also a time to:
• Remember and honour those who have lost their lives in the line of duty
• Recognise the courage and commitment of those currently serving
• Inspire future generations to take up this important calling

We appreciate your dedication and the sacrifices you make to keep us safe. You are brave firefighters who stand strong in the face of danger every single day, alongside your colleagues and others in the emergency services.
