Electricity Tariffs cost of Supply: Monthly Basket of Tariffs Excluding VAT

Overstrand residential electricity connections are currently standardised on 60Amp Single Phase. All low-cost housing areas and indigent consumers are limited to a 30 Amp Single Phase supply.

To view electricity tariffs, visit the municipal website on www.overstrand.gov.za; click on the ‘Documents’ tab then select ‘Final Budget 2024-2025’, and navigate to Annexure C (Rates and Tariffs).

UNDERSTANDING THE CHARGES:

Basic monthly charge: The basic monthly charge covers our fixed operational costs and capital infrastructure expenditure. This covers a range of services, including but not limited to upgrading and maintaining the entire municipal electrical network from the main supply point up to the consumer connection point. It also includes repairing or replacing faulty metering equipment within the electrical distribution area of Overstrand Municipality.

Capacity Charge: A rand per amp, per phase, per meter charge that is levied monthly based on the capacity reserved by the municipality for each individual customer connection. This charge will be payable by the property owner irrespective of the total energy used.

Consumer Deposits: In order to provide the Municipality with appropriate security for payment of amounts owing to it from time to time for services rendered, the Council shall impose a system of deposits payable by consumers. The deposits shall be set with due regard to the potential financial risk associated with the amounts owing from time to time as well as sufficient provision for working capital. The level of the deposits shall be revised annually and the Municipality may introduce transitional arrangements in respect of existing consumers.

Fixed Infrastructure Charge: The fixed Infrastructure charge is a non-escalating monthly fee which covers the capital contribution due for a specific capital infrastructure expenditure. A fixed cost charged for a specific loan undertaken for the upgrading of Bulk electrical infrastructure. It is not affected by the annual tariff increase.
