The Overstrand Municipality is currently replacing the ageing steel product water tank at the De Kelders Water Treatment Plant with a new Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) product tank.
The existing tank has been in service for approximately 14 years and has reached the stage where replacement is required to ensure the continued reliability of the water treatment process.
As part of the replacement process, it has been necessary to temporarily bypass the Reverse Osmosis (RO) filtration system. As a result, residents may notice a change in the hardness of the water. This is temporary and will return to normal once the project has been completed on 30 June 2026.
The water remains safe to drink and complies with SANS 241 drinking water quality standards.
The Municipality thanks residents for their understanding while these important infrastructure improvements are being undertaken.
