Host an Event in Overstrand
Legislation (The Business Act no 71 of 1991) requires that certain types of businesses need to have a valid business / trade licence before the business starts to operate.

Formal Businesses
Only businesses listed in Schedule 1, items 1, 2, or 3, of the Business Act, are required to have a licence.
These typically include grocery retail businesses, hair, beauty and nail salons, food vendors, and service providers with public-facing transactions including places of entertainment such as cinemas and night clubs.
Professional services such as financial advisors, accountants, or consultants generally do not require a licence unless specified by municipal by-laws.
Informal Businesses
Hawkers need a licence if:

- You are selling food and meals, which is transported to different selling points, whether by a vehicle or otherwise;
- You are stationed on a public road or at any other place accessible to the public; or
- Operating on or from a movable structure or stationary vehicle.

ALCOHOL SALES
If alcohol will be sold or consumed at your event, you must apply to the Western Cape Liquor Board via the South African Police Service (SAPS)
