At a Special Council meeting held on 29 July 2026, the Overstrand Municipal Council approved the secondment of Municipal Manager, Dr Dean O’Neill, to George Municipality to serve as Acting Municipal Manager for a period of three months, with an option to extend the arrangement for a further three months if required.

George Municipality requested the secondment of Overstrand Municipality’s Municipal Manager to George to act as Municipal Manager after the contract of its previous Municipal Manager was terminated.

A secondment is a temporary assignment to another organisation while the employee remains in the service of the original employer.

The necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the continued, uninterrupted delivery of municipal services during Dr O’Neill’s temporary assignment.

Council has resolved to appoint Edward Jantjies as Acting Municipal Manager of Overstrand Municipality for the duration of Dr O’Neill’s absence.
