The Overstrand Municipality’s Thusong Programme is calling on residents to embrace the spirit of Mandela Day throughout July by celebrating Madiba Month through the Love Your Street Campaign.
Together, we can honour Madiba’s legacy – not only through 67 minutes of service, but through a month of meaningful action that creates lasting change.
The Love Your Street Campaign invites residents, businesses, schools, faith-based organisations, community groups and civic organisations to adopt a street, park, public open space or neighbourhood area during July and help create cleaner, greener and safer communities.
Community members are encouraged to:
- Organise neighbourhood clean-up initiatives
* Collect litter and help prevent illegal dumping - Beautify public spaces by planting flowers, trees or indigenous vegetation
- Care for parks, sidewalks and other shared community facilities
- Promote recycling and responsible waste management
- Encourage friends, family, neighbours and colleagues to get involved
Time is one of our most valuable gifts. This Mandela Day, let’s give 67 minutes of our time to support vulnerable communities, lend a helping hand to organisations in need, and care for the places we share. Let’s Love Our Streets.
