On Wednesday, 24 September 2025, South Africans will once again come together to celebrate Heritage Day.
Although we may celebrate in different ways, Heritage Day provides an opportunity to reflect on who we are, where we come from, and what unites us as a country. It is a time to acknowledge our shared histories, respect our differences, and promote tolerance.
Various events are planned in Gansbaai, Stanford, Hermanus, and Kleinmond to mark the occasion, with Overstrand Libraries and the Tourism Office playing a key role in the celebrations.
One of the main events will take place at Lemm’s Corner at the Hermanus Old Harbour, featuring performances by the Volmoed Youth Drumming Circle, Zwelihle Young Brothers Acapella Group, Hawston Cadets, and the Spairo Art Foundation.
Overstrand Executive Mayor, Archie Klaas, said heritage is more than just tradition – it lives in our languages, music, food, stories, and community life.
“In the Overstrand, we are proud of the many cultures and customs that make our region vibrant and unique. I am confident that the fires will burn not only for the braai, but also in celebration of the spirit of Heritage Day.
“Let us take the time to appreciate our own heritage, and also show respect for the diverse heritages that defines our nation and exist within our municipality.”

PS: Overstrand Municipality’s refuse collection will continue as normal on Heritage Day.
Residents are reminded to please place their refuse bins and recycling bags on the pavement by 07:00.
