Mandela Day Mojo

Mandela Day Mojo

Every year on 18 July, we honour the legacy of Nelson Mandela by giving 67 minutes of our time to do ‘something good for others’.

Overstrand Municipality is once again joining hands with residents, businesses and community groups to help spread warmth, comfort and care where it’s needed most.

Whether it’s supporting a soup kitchen, donating children’s clothing, or helping animal shelters; every contribution counts.

Donations can be dropped off at municipal offices in Hermanus, Stanford, Gansbaai and Kleinmond or the Overstrand libraries.

These items will support various local organisations including animal welfare centres, crèches, and homes for the elderly.

For the Hermanus area, the Women Action Group has asked Overstrand Municipality to help support at least 50 disabled individuals in Mount Pleasant. They will also reach out to disabled residents in Zwelihle and Hawston.

They are specifically calling for donations of:

  • Dry or canned food
  • Toiletries: sanitary pads, adult nappies (M/L/XL), bath soap, lotion, and towels (new or gently used)
  • Cleaning products: Jik, Handy Andy, dishwashing liquid, washing powder, and air freshener
  • Warm clothing: new or good quality second-hand clothing for ages 7 to 60

Drop-off:

Items can be dropped off in Hermanus at the Overstrand Municipality Head Office (entrance via Magnolia Street or Harmony Lane). If needed, ask for Belinda Spanellis at the Municipal Manager’s Office for assistance.
