Overstrand Municipality welcomes its new Executive Mayor, Councillor Archie Klaas, following a Special Council Meeting held in Hermanus today, 12 May 2025.

He brings nearly a decade of experience from the Overberg District Municipality, where he held several key positions, most recently serving as Speaker. Mayor Klaas’s journey in public service began in 2016, when he was first elected as a councillor in the Overstrand Municipality. The knowledge and insight he gained over the years will serve him well in his new role.

Born and raised in Zwelihle, Hermanus, the new Mayor has deep roots in the Overstrand community. He has expressed his commitment to building on the work already done and continuing to improve service delivery across the municipality.

Together, the new Mayor and fellow Councillors (and his team), will focus on ensuring effective governance, improving local services, and delivering on the priorities set out for the year ahead.
