11 arrested during integrated Overstrand Operation

The Overstrand Municipality Public Safety Law Enforcement Units, together with SAPS and other enforcement partners, conducted a series of integrated operations across the Overstrand.

The operations focused on crime prevention, drug-related offences, traffic enforcement and the protection of marine resources, resulting in 11 arrests, the confiscation of drugs, fishing equipment and fish, and R13 500 in fines.

Drug-Related Arrests
Six people were arrested on drug-related charges.

In Hawston, two people were arrested, one for possession of Tik and another for dealing in drugs after officers found Tik, Mandrax and cocaine in his possession.

In Mount Pleasant, two people were arrested for possession of Tik and Mandrax.

During a separate K9 Unit and SAPS Crime Prevention Unit operation in Gansbaai, two additional suspects were arrested following a drug surveillance operation. Officers acted on information regarding suspected drug dealing activities and, after several hours of observation, arrested two suspects for possession of Tik and Mandrax.

Approximately 88 grams of Tik, with an estimated street value of R66 000, was confiscated along with drug-related exhibits and a cellphone.

Wanted suspect and drunk driving arrest
A suspect wanted in connection with a case of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft was arrested during the operation. The warrant related to a case registered in August 2025.

A motorist from Zwelihle was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol during vehicle checkpoint operations conducted in Hermanus.

Fisheries-Related arrests
In a separate operation in Hawston, three people were arrested for the illegal possession of a gill net and undersized fish.

Fish confiscated included:
• 2 Silver Moon fish
• 32 Harders (Mullet)
• 33 White Steenbras
• 46 White Stumpnose
• 5 Chads

A vehicle, ski boat, trailer and illegal gill net were also confiscated. The combined estimated value of the vehicle, boat and trailer is approximately R120 000.

Crime prevention & searches
The K9 Unit conducted crime prevention patrols and stop-and-search operations in Mount Pleasant, Zwelihle and Schulphoek.

A total of 25 people were searched:
• 11 in Zwelihle
• 8 in Mount Pleasant
• 6 in the Schulphoek/Sandbaai Industrial Area

Premises were searched in Gansbaai, Blompark, Masakhane and Mount Pleasant. Mandrax was found and confiscated during a search in Gansbaai, while no illegal items were found at the other premises searched.

Road safety enforcement
Officers continued with traffic compliance checks and vehicle control points throughout the operation.

A total of 23 vehicles were stopped and checked during a vehicle control point in Bergsig Street.

Combined traffic enforcement efforts resulted in R13 500 in fines being issued for various offences, including:
• Failure to wear seatbelts
• Unlicensed drivers
• Unlicensed motor vehicles
• Failure to display number plates
• Vehicle defects and roadworthiness offences
• Disregarding a stop sign

Overstrand Municipality and its law enforcement and security partners remain committed to maintaining a visible presence throughout the municipal area.

Integrated operations such as these play an important role in combating crime, improving road safety, protecting marine resources and ensuring safer communities for all residents.
