On Monday, 22 August 2016 Overstrand Executive Mayor Rudolph Smith took pleasure in announcing the recently appointed Mayoral Committee which will serve under his stewardship for the term 2016 to 2021.

The Mayoral Committee for the period will comprise:

Executive Mayor - Ald Rudolph Smith
Executive Deputy Mayor & Finance Portfolio - Ald Dudley Coetzee
Speaker - Ald Anton Coetsee
Management Services Portfolio - Cllr Riana de Coning
Protection Services Portfolio - Cllr Archie Klaas
Community Services Portfolio - Cllr David Botha
Infrastructure & Planning as well as Economic Development & Tourism - Cllr Elnora Gillion

The first official Mayoral Committee meeting will take place on Wednesday, 31 August 2016, followed shortly thereafter by the first Council meeting on the same day.

In the interest of rendering a better service to the public, the Traffic Department (housed on the corner of Short and Mussel Streets, Hermanus) as well as the Hermanus Library will in future be open to the public on every second Saturday.

It gives me great pleasure to address you at the first meeting of this Council at the start of a new term.

Ek moet in alle nederigheid hier erkenning gee aan my ouers, my familie en vriende wat my deur al die jare ondersteun het. Ek wil ook aan my Hemelse Vader dank uitspreek vir gesondheid en krag om ons werk te kan doen en dat Hy ons tot hiertoe gedra het.

Laat my toe om my voorganger te bedank vir die harde werk wat sy ingesit het in hierdie munisipaliteit.  Baie dankie vir u toegewydheid aan die inwoners en die lang ure van werk wat dit geverg het om Overstrand ‘n tuiste vir almal te maak.

As the dust came to rest after the recent hotly contested municipal elections, the first order of business for the newly elected councillors was to undergo an Orientation Programme that includes a Compulsory Workshop on Wednesday, 10 August 2016 followed by Council’s Inauguration Meeting set for Friday, 12 August 2016.

Municipal Manager, Coenie Groenewald, has advised  that the aim of the workshop is for Councillors to familiarise themselves with the Councillors’ Code of Conduct, Council’s Rules of Order for Internal Arrangements and specific legislation.  The gathering will also allow Councillors to work through the process and procedures regarding the election of Ward Committees (15 – 18 August 2016).  Moreover, Councillors will also focus on the Integrated Development Plan process and related matters.

At the Inauguration Meeting, the speaker, mayor, deputy mayor and whip will be announced.

On Monday, 8 August, Overstrand’s ladies in uniform announced their integrated plan to help put an end to the carnage on our roads and to protect both Overstrand's community and its wildlife. Hosted at the Zwelihle Community Hall, this event was planned to coincide with Women’s Month and was attended by 28 female representatives of Overstrand’s uniformed forces, representing Overstrand Protection Services, Hermanus SAPS, Provincial Traffic Services as well as Marine and Coastal Management.

Given their hectic schedules and workloads, the attendees seldom have the opportunity to socialise and exchange notes. On this occasion, though, they thoroughly enjoyed exchanging their “recipes” for being “bold and beautiful” and for “instilling trust in those they serve by being noble and trusting”. These sentiments were echoed in the closing address delivered by Neville Michaels, Director: Protection Services, who emphasised that female officers should always celebrate the special beauty they, as dedicated women in uniform, are privileged to portray.
